Thomas Friedman wrote “Democracy Is in Recession” pointing the finger at Turkey. He could have pointed his finger at the US.
While some but not all Americans have the right to vote no-one represents the interests of the 99% in Washington. The only choice Americans have is between the two tweedle dee and tweedle dum parties – both of which are owned by big money. Why else would the top marginal rate be so low. Just look at inverse relationship between income disparity and the marginal tax rate on the riches 1% (from Inequality for All).
American democracy is a farce – which would be funny if not for the real consequences for most Americans and the poor model for democracy that it provides.
